Welcome and thank you for your interest in our Valued Education Partner program. One of the biggest challenges we face each year is finding good quality young people that are interested in a career in our industry. Today’s college students just don’t understand that there are rewarding career opportunities in the distribution industry. We all know how broad the distribution industry is and how many different business disciplines make up distribution. There are needs for managers, sales, marketing, finance, accounting, human resources, risk management and information systems people in each of our companies, regardless of whether we are wholesalers, manufacturers, representatives or even contractors.
Think what it would mean to the future of your company if you had access to screened, pre-qualified and tested college graduates that actually want to be in our industry. What would it be worth to you to have an identified candidate pool to choose from the next time you are hiring? How much time do you spend recruiting or prequalifying potential employees? How often have you hired someone only to have them leave after a short period of time because they don’t like the industry? Here is your solution to these common problems.
Purpose Support the creation and development of the Supply Chain Management program at Appalachian State University. Our program, in conjunction with ASU and the Walker College of Business, is designed to provide each of our Valued Education Partners access to potential future employees of the highest quality. We have partnered with ASU to help establish a Supply Chain Management concentration in the College of Business and to provide employment opportunities within our industry to students participating in the Supply Chain Management program. By participating in our VEP program you will be helping to provide needed scholarships to qualifying students and financial support to the overall program.
Program We will interact frequently and consistently with the faculty, staff and students in the Supply Chain program. Our goal is to have personal knowledge of each student so we can help match them with the best possible future employment opportunity. We will be a part of the Supply Chain program as it grows and will have the ability to ensure its success.
All throughout the year the Murray Supply recruiting team (with the help of the Career Development Center in the Walker College of Business) will prescreen the top graduating students and provide each of our Valued Education Partners the following:
- Student's Resume
- Outline of the student’s accomplishments during their college career
- Personalized interaction summary (VEP’s may supply Murray
Supply with desirable candidate attributes prior to the spring job fair
and we will screen, in person, for these attributes) identifying
specific KCT’s. [Key Character Traits]
- List of students that qualify for summer internships and their areas of interest
- Personality and Behavioral Profile test that measures the
behavioral style of each student and their ability to; respond to
problems and changes, influence others, respond to the pace of the
environment and how they respond to rules and procedures set by others
(Excerpts from a sample test are attached, complete test results are
approximately 25 pages)
Additionally, each VEP will have the opportunity, if they choose to do so, to personally interact with the students in a classroom, social or job fair setting to develop future employees at little to no cost. Getting to know the students is a key factor to making good hiring decisions.
